The Neighbourhood Action Network (NAN for short) is a network of community groups in the ERDF areas of Preston. The ERDF areas of Preston include most of the eastern and central electoral wards: Brookfield, Deepdale, Fishwick, St. Matthew's, Town Centre, Ribbleton, parts of St. George's, Riversway & University. Click here to open a PDF file with a map of Preston' electoral wards. The network brings together community groups so that they can share knowledge, skills and experience with each other. The aim is for communities to be more confident in running their groups, get involved with local regeneration schemes and activities, work towards creating local job opportunities, build the confidence of their members and tackle the social problems that affect them.
During 2004 NAN enabled networking at events, through the popular newsletter LAGA News, study visits and tookit publications. Near the end of the year an opportunity arose to provide Training for Transformation (for more info on this click here) to community groups in Preston in partnership with Oxfam UK. Since October a group of 19 community workers and community members from the ERDF areas of Preston have been participating in the course.
At the moment the project is now concentrating on those groups involved with Training for Transformation, but the website will still be a source of copies of LAGA News, and TOOLKITs, and as a way of contacting us!
